On May 5th in Paris, Chengdu, Chongqing and Shenyang have presented their projects and initiatives on the environment. This presentation took place in the framework of the cooperation agreement on eco-neighborhoods signed last November between the French Ministry of Economics and Finance and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade.
France introduced the concept of eco-city and nine companies (GDF Suez, Arte Charpentier Architects Terao, Schneider Electric, MBD Design, Biotope, EDF R & D, Paprec Egis) highlighted their expertise.
Chongqing is the largest of the three pilot cities selected. For this highly industrialized city (cars, motorcycles with almost 30% of Chinese output, heavy equipment, chemicals and petrochemicals, textiles, electronics, energy), environmental needs are focused primarily on water treatment, waste treatment and lighting. The city has put forward its Chongqing Economic and Technology Development Zone, in Yubei, which represent 59 km ² between two mountains and includes the airport and the highway. It is within this area that then municipal authorities want to establish a 2km² Sino-France Chongqing Ecological Park.
In Chongqing, as elsewhere, the Chinese interest is focused on innovative technologies and R & D for the environment. In this regard, the Chinese would like to focus the development on electric vehicles, compressed gases, dust removal, wastewater treatment and solid waste treatment. In the longer term, Ruixue Li, vice director of Chongqing Economic & Technical Zone Administration committee, show his interest for a potential “co-operation in electronic information industry, modern machines manufacture, and the photovoltaic.
